Over 60 years ago, Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas was started to care for the poor and support families across the 31 counties of the Salina Diocese. In 1983, Catholic Charities opened its first outreach facility in Hays with a small rented office and one staff member. Today, Catholic Charities in Hays serves over 500 families across 16 counties in the western region of the Diocese by providing financial and housing assistance, personal care and basic needs (including food, hygiene, and diapers), pregnancy and adoption services, and counseling services. Services are in-person from our office, as well as on the road through our outreach services vehicles.
Our Hays team has done amazing work from our office at 122 E. 12th St., but we have outgrown our space and cannot expand the reach of our services to poor and vulnerable families of western Kansas in our current building. An incredibly generous family recently donated a 9,000 sq. ft. building to Catholic Charities and we are redeveloping it into our new western Kansas headquarters. This building will serve as an anchor of hope for families in need in the Hays area community for years to come!
PROJECT FEATURES
As a nonprofit organization, we operate on donations from generous donors just like you. Like the family who donated this building, your support will help Catholic Charities continue to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus throughout this rural region of Kansas, ensuring that those we serve will receive the compassionate care they deserve.

To help fund this project, Catholic Charities of Northern Kansas is applying for Community Service Tax Credits, and we need your help before April 21. Non-committal pledge letters from donors are needed for the application to the Kansas Department of Commerce.
If awarded, these 50% tax credits would have a significant impact on the fundraising efforts towards this renovation project and provide great benefits for donors with Kansas tax liabilities, too! Catholic Charities plans to apply for $200,000 in tax credits that would generate $400,000 in donations toward the project. For example, a $1,000 donation to the project would provide a return benefit of $500 in state tax credits for the donor. It’s a win-win-win for the donor, Catholic Charities, and the community!
To qualify, donations must be at least $250, but there is no limit to how many a donor can purchase. If awarded, tax credits will be available from July 1, 2023, until they are sold or by December 31, 2024. If you are interested and willing to submit a non-committal pledge letter (sample below) to accompany our application, please contact Eric Frank at 785-825-0208 or by email at efrank@ccnks.org.
